We have created a comprehensive directory of schools and universities throughout the US that offer online MPH degree programs. Most of the Master of Pubic Health (MPH) degrees are available online, but a large number of hybrid courses are also available. For this reason, we have divided the directory into two main parts.
Some of the institutions, like Liberty University, have been pioneers of distance learning for decades. Others pride themselves on offering innovative 21st-century online master degree programs in public health. However, whatever form the programs take, all will provide graduates with an MPH degree that is similar to MPH degrees available to students attending school in real-time. Furthermore, like any other MPH degree program, those offered online are designed to give students the skills and expertise they will need to succeed in what has become a hugely competitive contemporary public health marketplace.
For convenience, we have tabulated our MPH directory to indicate the basic offerings of each school or university that offers an MPH degree. From the table (see below) students will immediately be able to identify whether schools offer full-time or part-time programs and whether these are traditional or advanced standing programs.
Students will also be able to see whether the schools offering online MPH degrees have 100 percent of their classes online. Some do require students to spend a short period, for instance a couple of days, on campus. Those categorized as online might require one or two real-time visits to the school. The schools that are classified as hybrid require students to visit the school campus at least three times a year. Of course, this will impact on the suitability of the school’s location unless students have the capacity and willingness to travel.
Each of the school pages has sufficient information to enable prospective students to learn more about individual programs and courses, and in this way make an educated decision that are best for them. The information supplied includes details of the concentrations universities and schools offer, student eligibility and other admission requirements, and in some instances the field education requirements. Field education, or a practicum of a certain prescribed number of hours, is compulsory, even in the case of programs that are delivered totally online. In most instances, schools have field education coordinators who are tasked with helping students find suitable placements for their practicums in their home cities or towns, or in another place or environment that is appropriate.
Many of the MPH programs and schools that offer MPH degrees are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), an independent agency that is recognized by the US Department of Education. The CEPH accredits public health programs and schools of public health according to strict criteria and procedures. Note that the CEPH definition of a public health program is not the same as a fully accredited public health school.
Some MPH programs and schools are accredited by other organizations and agencies that have been set up in certain states. This information is also supplied on the various school pages.
