UAB School of Public Health

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is an academic medical center and doctoral research university dedicated to changing public health. The School of Public Health aims to lead the development, dissemination and application of knowledge that will both prevent disease and promote good health worldwide. Because the public health sector comprises a number of different disciplines, the UAB School of Public Health incorporates a relatively wide range of subjects in its programs. There are five academic departments at the school that together offer education and training in more than 20 specialties.

The online UAB MPH degree programs are ideal for those who are employed or who cannot relocate to Birmingham to study on campus. There are currently five available program concentrations, each of which has its own very specific focus.

The online UAB MPH degree program in Environmental Health and Toxicology studies links between public health and the environment. Students are trained to recognize and assess toxicity and determine its risk to the general public. They are also trained to design and communicate strategies that will reduce risks of toxicity in the environment. The MPH in Occupational Health and Safety focuses on identifying and assessing threats to human health. It also teaches students how to take steps to prevent injury and disease relating to both occupational and environmental agents.

The UAB MPH degree program in Health Care Organization has been designed for those planning a career in public health that has a management focus in any of the traditional health care fields. The UAB MPH degree program in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership focuses on special problems that are faced by women and children. There is also an online coordinated MPH in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership/Master of Social Work for social workers.

The UAB School of Public Health belongs to the Association of Schools of Public Health and its employment council, and it is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The School of Public Health is also accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). All online UAB MPH degree programs allow for good collaboration of students with the university faculty and with their peers.
