The University of West Florida (UWF) offers an online Master of Public Health (MPH) degree designed to provide graduates with a top quality multi-disciplinary perspective on public health. The program received its initial accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) in summer 2009, and completed a successful re-accreditation inn Fall 2014. The fact that the program is online, provides a growing pool of agile professionals who wish to earn an MPH degree the opportunity to do so without being confined to a brick and mortar campus. The program has a global reach which serves people around the world with opportunities to work in a myriad of public health and allied fields within the general health industry. The program has a rolling enrollment with students admitted for Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. The UWF MPH program offers a reduced tuition through a special Online Tuition Waiver program for qualifying students.
Launched in 2006, the UWF MPH program features competencies that have been adopted from the Association of Schools of Public Health. There is a set of core courses plus a number of required courses, as well as additional elective courses that make up a total of 42 credit hours. Students are required to complete at least 12 semester hours in a year. Because the program allows students to combine elective courses with core and required courses, they can tailor the degree so that it fits their career goals. Furthermore, the MPH is allied with a number of certificate programs and academic centers which broadens the scope of educational opportunities available to those enrolled in the program.
The UWF MPH program maintains a close relationship with state-owned and run public health facilities in the region and across the US, as well as with hospitals in the area (including various local community hospitals, Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Florida and military health programs). This provides a strong collaboration with both the public health and health care communities, broadening the opportunities for internship for those enrolled in the program and exposure to careers in the field. Our graduates have interned at such places as the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pan American Health Organization. Graduates are employed in local county, state and Federal health related entities.
