MPH Programs in New York

As one of the largest cities in the United States, New York state offers residents and non-residents alike dozens of opportunities to earn their MPH, both online and on-campus. The following is a list of some of the most well-known accredited schools in New York. It is important to note, still, that there are many schools that fall beyond the scope of this list through which students can still earn an MPH. Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health- New York, NY

Columbia University, an Ivy League institution, accepts students of the top caliber. It’s Mailman School of Public Health integrates core curriculum work with hands-on leadership and discipline-specific experience in the field and offers both a traditional two-year and an accelerated one-year MPH program.

Columbia offers twenty Certificate programs, among which are global health, healthy policy analysis, molecular epidemiology, and toxicology. Each Certificate program is tailored to give students a more focused expertise on the public health discipline of their interest.

New York University’s College of Global Health- New York, NY

NYU’s College of Global Health offers three certificate programs- global health, and LGBT health, education and social sciences- as well as eight concentrations in which students are directly enrolled upon admission. Each concentration comes with unique degree requirements that require students to take specific courses that relate to the practice in addition to their core classes.

The school also offers a cross-continental MPH program that allows students to study at three NYU institutions within three different continents- in Washington, D.C., Accra, and Abu Dhabi. The year-long program is directed at students who are particularly interested in global public health and invites NYU students to join their growing global network.

New York Medical College’s School of Health Sciences and Practice Online MPH Program- New York, NY

New York Medical College offers a well-respected online MPH program. As in all accredited online programs, students are afforded the same resources as traditional on-campus programs and communicate with their professors and colleagues via email, conference rooms, and discussion boards. Students can work part-time while earning their degree and generally graduate from the program within two years.

The school offers four major concentrations- behavior and social science, environmental and occupational health, epidemiology, and health policy and administration. Each of the concentrations comes with its own requirements in terms of course load and fieldwork hours and is designed to provide students with specialized knowledge and experience. St. John’s University, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences- Queens, NY

Students of St. John’s MPH program get to choose between one of two concentrations, community health and global health. Each program is 45 credits and allows students a broader, more generalized degree from which they are afforded various options including health educator, public health advisor, health policy analyst, and health administrator.

St. John’s offers evening classes for students who choose to work full or part-time during the day or who may who have other personal commitments while earning their graduate degree. The school also offers a part-time MPH program, which students generally complete within five years.
