Looking to earn your Master in Public Health while living in New Jersey? Maybe you work part-time and want to find a school nearby to make your commute more feasible? Luckily, there are many accredited MPH schools in New Jersey that offer programs on-campus, online, or both (known as a hybrid-program).
Given the variety of options in New Jersey, it is always a good idea to explore different schools before choosing the one that works best with your goals, schedule, and future career plans. The following is a list of some of the most well-known MPH programs in New Jersey.
The Rutgers School of Public Health offers many degree programs, including dual-degree options, to fit almost anyone’s interest. To graduate with an MPH degree, students must complete 15 units of core classes, as well as requirements set forth by specific concentrations and 6 units of fieldwork. Among the various concentrations Rutgers offers include Dental Public Health, Global Health, Biostatistics, and Epidemiology. The school also allows students to earn their degree with a double concentration. Click here to learn more about Rutgers’ application process.
Montclair State University currently offers a single concentration in Community Health Education and is known for guiding its students on their way to careers in health administration, research, and education. The school is fully-accredited and has a large part-time program in which about half the students are enrolled in any given year. Montclair’s program requires 42 credits of coursework to be taken, which takes about two years for full-time students and three years for part-time students. As part of the curriculum, students must complete a 6-credit internship, where they will spend sixty hours working in the field.
Seton Hall University offers an online Master of Healthcare Administration, from which students are often hired to work in hospitals, assisted-living centers, and pharmaceutical companies. The online program is 24-months long, split between 6 semesters. In addition to the core curriculum, students are required to complete five-day “intensives” at the beginning, middle, and end of their degree. These intensives take place on-campus in South Orange and offer students the opportunity to meet their professors and colleagues in person.
Because online programs can sometimes be completed entirely from the computer, students can technically be enrolled in an institution located in a different state while still living in New Jersey. Students who graduate from an online MPH program often find it easier to balance work and life commitments while simultaneously earning the professional degree.
