What is the salary range for people with a Master of Public Health degree?

While it’s impossible to foresee what all graduates with a Master of Public Health (MPH) are likely to earn, the US Bureau of Labor does supply statistics that give us a good idea of what may be expected by graduates.

Their information is based largely on the specific direction those with an MPH decide to take after they have graduated. Currently, it relates to the occupational outlook from 2012 to 2022.

Here are some facts and figures from the US Department of Labor for MPH Graduates

  • Health educators can earn a good salary, ranging from about $48,000 (per statistics in 2012) to as much as $95,000 for a job with the federal government.
  • Biostatisticians who often get jobs with pharmaceutical companies can earn more than $92,000 a year, and a little less (around $87,000) if they decide to focus on scientific research in other fields.
  • Medical and health services managers, who are also called healthcare administrators or healthcare executives, can earn as much as $88,580 per year (2012) with a much faster than average increase of 23 percent annually. Moreover, this projected figure was with only a bachelor’s degree, which means that anyone with an MPH can earn even more.
  • Epidemiologists, who investigate the patterns and general causes of disease and injury and reduce the risks and occurrence of negative health issues, were earning on average $65,270 annually in 2012. This figure was expected to increase by 10 percent to 2022 and was specifically for those with an MPH.
  • Social and community service managers who supervise and coordinate social service programs and community organizations could expect to earn close to $60,000 in 2012. That figure is increasing by 21 percent per annum, which is a faster increase than average. Only a bachelor degree was required though many employers do prefer a master’s qualification, including an MPH. Also, it was specified that work experience should be at least five years.

The secret is to ensure that students identify the path that they plan to follow right from the start, to ensure finding a job in the field chosen.
