The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health (SPH) was established in 1970, and currently offers six degrees, one of which is a Master of Public Health (MPH). Within the UIC MPH degree program, there are a total of three fully online MPH programs that offer concentrations in health policy and administration, community health sciences, and UIC also offers the only MPH in Public Health Informatics (PHI) that is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
All the UIC MPH degree programs allow students to study at any time, wherever they are located. They are expected to log into online classes at least four times a week, and they must keep pace with discussions, assignments, and any examinations that are part of the course. These are all posted in the online course syllabus. On average, students need to spend at least eight to ten hours on activities related to the course every week. There are two health policy and administration UIC MPH degree programs on offer, and one that focuses on community health sciences.
The online MPH in community health services is available as both a comprehensive program and for professional enhancement program (PEP) students, similar to the course that is offered on campus. It is designed so that it can be completed comfortably in two years when study is full time.
The Master of Public Health in Public Health Informatics (MPH PHI) degree aims to give graduates a deeper understanding of population health, and has been designed to develop an expertise in the key focus, public health informatics. It is an ideal master’s degree for those already working in state or local public health agencies. It is also a perfect option for a range of other public health workers who might currently be working in pharmaceutical organizations or in managed care, with IT professional, or with veterans or other military personnel.
The third option is the PEP for health policy and administration that gives students the opportunity to earn their UIC MPH degree by doing coursework online. Like the other courses, it takes two years when study is full time.
