Two world-class universities have collaborated to create the first online MPH degree program available in Oregon. OHSU-PSU School of Public Health is located in downtown Portland.
The OHSU-PSU MPH degree program offers many different tracks in accepted public health concentrations. However, the only one that is offered online is the Primary Health Care and Health Disparities specialty track. One of the few online specialties accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), it provides training focused on health care and disease prevention in the population as a whole. It prepares students for leadership roles in various settings including health departments, health centers, and health maintenance organizations.
The program is based on established principles and concepts that relate to primary health care, but it teaches students how to tackle disparities in public health in a unique way. For instance, improvements in access to primary health care and “quality for under-served populations” are emphasized.
Applicants for admission to any Oregon MPH degree program must have graduated from a four-year course at an accredited college or university, and must have completed an undergraduate statistics course. Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), or the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) are required, as well as three letters of reference from professional or academic individuals. Recommended minimum scores for the GRE are 4.5 for analytical writing, and 500 each for verbal and quantitative reasoning.
Applicants for the online specialty track may be granted conditional admission in some circumstances should their scores not be high enough. However, they are then required to maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher for a specified number of credit hours.
Application documents required, in addition to the above, include a statement of purpose, a resume, and a record of course information from all colleges and universities the applicant has attended.
